Who can join

SEPGRS is open to anyone with an interest in large-scale model trains

Any scale or gauge

While our club focuses on G gauge (1.75″ track), members run trains from Z gauge to 1″ scale. If you love trains, you belong here. Scales include 1:20, 1:22, 1:24, 1:29, and 1:32.

Beginners welcome

You don’t need a layout or any experience to join. Many members started with SEPGRS to learn the hobby. Our clinics and experienced members will help you get started.

Families & children

All family members are welcome at every club activity. We’ve been actively growing our younger membership and love having families and children involved in the hobby.

Indoor & outdoor operators

G-gauge track runs in gardens, on decks and patios, on bench work indoors, or directly on the ground. All operating environments and power types — electric, battery, live steam — are welcome.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to own trains or have a layout to join?

Not at all. Many members joined SEPGRS before they owned a single piece of track. Club meetings, open houses, and clinics are a great way to learn about the hobby and decide what direction you want to take. We welcome gardeners, train enthusiasts, and curious beginners alike.

When does my membership renew?

Memberships are annual. You'll receive a renewal reminder through the monthly News Flash newsletter. Dues are $20.00 per family per year regardless of when during the year you join.

What G-gauge scales does the club support?

Our club runs on G-gauge track, which has 1.75 inches between the rails and is made from brass, aluminum, or stainless steel — unaffected by outdoor weather. The trains that run on it come in several scales: 1:20 or 1:24 (narrow gauge), 1:29 or 1:32 (standard gauge), and 1:22.5 (European). Despite the differences in scale, they all run on the same G-gauge track. Members also bring other large-scale trains to share and discuss at meetings.

How do I access the member portal after joining?

Once your membership is confirmed by our coordinator, you'll receive login credentials for the member portal. The portal lets you view the club roster, create and download your membership badge, sign up for events, and connect with other members.

Where do club meetings take place?

Monthly meetings are held in the Downingtown, PA area. The exact location is shared with members through the newsletter and the members portal. Check the Events page or the Google Calendar for the next meeting date and location.

Can I participate in train shows without a personal layout?

Absolutely. SEPGRS maintains a modular club layout that members assemble and operate at train shows. You can bring your own locomotives and rolling stock to run on the club modules, or simply help with setup, teardown, and operation. It's one of the most fun parts of membership.
